There are few studies that support the use of Photobiomodulation (PBM) in the treatment of tendonitis and the application parameters still remain controversial. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of low intensity LED therapy (630nm) on acute tendinitis induced in the calcaneus tendon in Wistar rats. We used 30 animals ? 12 weeks of life randomly selected and distributed in 3 groups: CONTROL group (n = 8), TENDINITE group (n = 11), LED group (n = 11). Tendonitis was induced in the tendinitis and led groups by means of peritendinous injection of 100 ?L of collagenase. The animals in the LED group were irradiated 1hour postinjury (630 ? 20 nm; DE: 9 J/cm2, time of 30 s) and these applications were repeated every 24 hours over a period of 7 days. The animals were euthanized 24 hours after the end of the applications. After the euthanasia procedures the right calcaneus tendons were removed and histological, histochemical and immunohistochemical were performed. There was an increase in the number of tenocytes, of the angiogenesis, appearance of the granulation tissue and a greater expression of the Hsp70 protein in the Led group than in the control and tendinitis groups.
