Popis: Benedito Machado site, located in Botucatu, central São Paulo state, was dated around 700 years BP and showed ceramics that can be attributed to the Itararé-Taquara Tradition. Our analysis showed that mineral temper was always present in the ceramic sample, but 54% of fragments also showed type A cariapé, an unprecedented data in the literature. Some hypotheses are advanced in order to explain the presence of cariapé in this geographical area, given that such temper is virtually absent in Itararé-Taquara ceramics of the southern states.
