Tese (Doutorado) ? Indiscriminate use of chemical insecticides to control insect pests in the agricultural and forestry sector, can negatively affect natural enemies populations, thereby selective insecticides should be prioritized in integrated pest management programs. Parasitoids are important natural enemies that contribute positively to maintain ecological balance in the agroecosystem particularly in the control of insect pests. Chemical insecticides must be toxic to the pest and harmless to the biological control agent to successful association of chemical and biological control. The objective of this work was to evaluate the acute toxicity of imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and deltamethrin, and the effects on the biology of the endoparasitoid Palmistichus elaeisis Delvare & LaSalle (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) throughout three generations. The acute toxicity for P. elaeisis was determined by the CL50 estimative from dose-response bioassay for 48 hours of exposure. The effects on parasitism capacity and emergence rate of P. elaeisis after CL10 and CL50 exposure to neonicotinoids insecticides and pyrethroid were evaluated. Pupae of Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) used as an alternative host were contaminated with insecticides and offered to P. elaeisis. The biological parameters such as parasitism capacity, emergence rate, sex ratio, duration of the biological cycle and survival were evaluate throughout three generations. The three insecticides were toxic to P. elaeisis, causing an increase in mortality with increasing level of exposure. Parasitism and emergence were not reduced when they were contaminated by contact with imidacloprid and thiamethoxam, but with deltamethrin there were no emergencies. P. elaeisis parasitism capacity was not reduced on the other hand emergence rate was significantly reduced. Insecticide exposure The sex ratio and the biological cycle was significantly affected, with increase in the number of days to complete the biological cycle. The risk of death was high for all three insecticides and sublethal effects can be observed up to the third generation of P. elaeisis.
