| Popis: | Background: hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) is widely used to relie ve menopausa[ symptoms and to prevent and treat osteopo rosis. But its effect on blood pressure in hypert ensive postmenopausal women is unknown.Objectives: To evaluate the acute and chronic effects of estradiol, in physiol ogic doses, in postmenopausal women withclass li hypert en sion.Methods: Thirty four hypertensive postmenopausal women, mean age 58, 58 ± 3,5 years old , prospecti vely double blind randomized to receive placebo (n=17) or oral estradiol (n= 17), at dose of 1 mg per day, during 1.2 consecutive weeks.
