No. of bitstreams: 1 RODRIGO HENRIQUE BUSNARDO DE SOUZA.pdf: 492889400 bytes, checksum: fbc6e13430b63b9a857afb791e548ad5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2019-02-27 Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior - CAPES The present research aims to highlight the possible relations between Brazil and France, between 1840 and 1889, regarding the involvement of the researched intellectual tripod: photography, the city and urban landscape. The study of the relations between these two diverse cultures mainly addresses the interrelationship that nineteenth-century photography had in the urban landscape of the Brazilian and French capitals - Paris and Rio de Janeiro. The role played by the Brazilian emperor Dom Pedro II is evidenced through his decorations to the official photographers of the Empire, as well as the Brazilian participation in the Universal Expositions of 1876 and 1889, where the photograph of Brazilian urban landscapes were exposed. And the role of the French emperor Napoleon III, in renewing the urban fabric of Paris, highlighted the photographic services of Charles Marville - official photographer of Paris. This work deals with the urban plans designed and / or carried out in this temporal cut: on the Brazilian side, the Beaurepaire-Rohan Plans and the Improvement Plan for Rio de Janeiro; on the Parisian side, the Haussmann Plan. The exhibition of some of the images of two icons of nineteenth-century urban photography: Marc Ferrez in Brazil and Charles Marville in Paris is exposed. The images of the Photographers of the Imperial House, decorated by D. Pedro II, come to reinforce the exhibition of the Rio de Janeiro views, as well as its urban facilities. Therefore, through these revelations of a social, cultural, technical and scientific character, it is possible to show the fraternal involvement between photography and pre-urbanism, since, from their respective births, they walk independently, but inseparably, especially in the academic environment, whether it is aimed at the professional or the scientific universe.
