The identification and characterization of the parasites used in this study, were done with basis on morphometric parameters of the oocysts and the specificity to Cystoisospora felis and C. rivolta. the definitive hosts. So they were characterized as The clinical signs of the disease was characterized by diarrhea, dehydration, rug hair coat, and death. These clinical signs were observed more frequently in young animals than adults ones, when submited to stress conditions. All animals used in this study, some of which living free before being aprisioned or those that were born in cages were positive for C. felis and C. rivolta, when their feces were examined for period equal or superior to eight or more days. Young cats were more susceptible to infection in a clinical overview than adults ones, and could be harbored thousands of oocysts when compared their total daily fecal counts. By means of an experimental quimiotherapic treatment of pregnant cats with sulfa and pirimethamin, in a profilatic basis, was demonstrated that was possible to obtain kittens free of C. felis and C. rivolta. |
