Popis: Maria Cristina dos Santos Medeiros; Boniek Castillo Dutra Borges; Alex José Souza dos Santos This study aimed to analyze the effect of the lubrication of dental composite modeling instruments of different lubricants on the degree of conversion and crosslink density, during incremental technique of manipulation of composite resin. The following parameters were varied: 1) types of composite resins based on different monomers, these being Filtek Z-350 XT and the Empress Direct: polymerized using single increment for 20 seconds; 2) types of lubricants employed to avoid (or reduce) the adhesion of composite instruments: Adper Single Bond 2 (SB), Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (MP), 70% Ethanol (70E), Absolute Ethanol (AE). No lubricant was used in the control group (CT). The Degree of Conversion (DC) and Crosslink Density (CLD) were measured. The laboratory results showed that Filtek did not change the degree of conversion, however, showed changes in crosslink density only when the MP was used while the Empress Direct unchanged both at DC and in CLD. Regarding lubricants measured the absolute alcohol showed no smaller effect on the properties researched in the study indicating a better clinical performance. The Filtek appeared less sensitive to the effects of lubricants used and the use of absolute alcohol can safely done by dentists in clinical routine.
