В статье дан краткий анализ действующих в Беларуси правил номинации географических объектов, а также их транслитерация на латиницу = Lack of proper legal attention to the issues of nomination, to political and historical peculiarities of the emergence of names has caused a number of unsolved problems in the field of Belarusian toponymics. In recent years an attempt has been made to remove the contradictions and settle a number of problem issues. However, the settlement process can‟t be considered finished. This refers both to the geographic names nomination rules acting in Belarus and to their transliteration into the Latin alphabet, which is the object of a brief critical analysis presented in the article. The offered topic is urgent due to an ambiguous perception of the suggested norms and, in some cases, due to their complete disregard by both the public and the administrative officials.
