Aim of the study: to do a systematic literature review and assess the results of studies analyzing prostate artery embolization for treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia. Tasks: 1. To evaluate treatment results of prostate artery embolization for larger than 80 cm3 prostate glands. 2. To compare treatment results of prostate artery embolization with other surgical treatments for benign prostate hyperplasia 3. To submit practical recommendations of prostate artery embolization treatment use. Material and the methods: a systematic review of the literature was conducted using the electronic medical database „PubMed\" (MEDLINE), „Science Direct\" (EMBASE), Cochrane library. Studies were selected which included treatment by PAE for large prostate glands or compared results of PAE with other surgical methods of treatment. Combination of the key terms „benign prostate hyperplasia”, „prostate artery embolization”, „prostatic artery embolization” were used. According to the PRISMA guidelines, a clinical question was raised and criteria for inclusion and rejection were drawn up. Results: after a systematic search in electronic databases, 493 studies were identified and 13 studies met the inclusion criteria and responded to PICO question. 7 studies were included for the large prostate gland treatment by PAE analysis and 6 studies were included for comparison of treatment result between PAE and other surgical methods. Conclusions: This systematic review of literature suggests that PAE is an effective method for reducing LUTS in GPH patients and should be considered as an alternative treatment option to already applied methods. |
