The aim of this thesis is to examine the prevalence of paratuberculosis in cattle and wild ruminant population during the period of ten years. Paratuberculosis is chronic infectious intestinal disease, affecting cattle and other ruminants. It is important and significant, since it causes substantial economic losses. In order to reduce the spread of this disease and the resulting economic losses, it is essential to research the prevalence of disease in cattle and wild ruminant populations. Analysis of serological tests for paratuberculosis during the period of 2006-2015 was performed. In total, blood serum samples of 15970 cattle and 4859 wild ruminants were tested. The samples were tested by using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. IDEXX diagnostic kits were used for serological tests. The blood serum tests revealed that 272 cattle, 4 deer and 13 mouflons were seropositive for paratuberculosis. This represents 1,7 percent (95%PI 78-2,22), 0,14 percent (95%PI 0,002-0,95), 4,19 percent (95%PI 1,35-6,65) of all tested blood samples, respectively. All samples were collected from 44 districts in Lithuania. Analysis of blood serum samples revealed that the highest number of cattle, seropositive for paratuberculosis, was in Alytus, Joniškis, Lazdijai and Šakiai districts. The lowest number of seropositive samples was found in Šilalė district. All positive blood samples of mouflons were found in Joniškis district, and deer – in Mažeikiai district. The highest number of seropositive cattle (6,59 percent; 95%PI 0,26-13,74) was found in 2007, while the one of wild ruminants – in 2012. In 2008, no case of paratuberculosis was found. While analysing the samples, the most specific antibodies against paratuberculosis were found for the cattle of 2,1-6 year-old, and for the mouflons and deer, older than 2,1 year-old. In cattle population, 95,9 percent (95%PI 93,41-98,59) of females and 4,09 percent (95%PI 1,41-6,59) of males were seropositive for paratuberculosis.
