Aim of the study: to evaluate the identification of child abuse cases in Children Emergency Department of Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno klinikos. Tasks: to identify child abuse cases from 2016 in Children’ Emergency Department of Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno klinikos. To carry out an educational course on child abuse identification at Children’ Emergency Department. To evaluate the effectiveness of the child abuse identification course. Methodology and participants: Data for the evaluation of child abuse cases from 2016 was taken from case histories. Nurses and pediatric resident doctors were attending the course for identification of child abuse voluntarily. Their knowledge was evaluated with a 10 question test before and after the course. The test was based on the information provided in the course. Results: In 32 child abuse cases 18(56,3%) were boys and 14(43,8%) were girls. The minimum age of the patients was 1 month, maximum – 17years, median – 8 years. Most often child abuse victims came to the hospital in May and September. Most often abusers were the fathers(26,7%) and the mothers(23,3%). The course on child abuse evaluation was attented by 25 nurses and 10 pediatric resident doctors. Data was gathered and evaluated from 32 tests before and after the course. The median of points collected in the test before the course was 13, after the course – 16; the minimum and maximum points collected before the course were 5 and 16, after the course - 14 and 20.
