Popis: | The process of mutual positioning of the mandible and the upper jawbone begins in the intrauterine life and does not complete until permanent dentition has been fully developed. The proper development of the stomatognathic system may be disrupted by a number of deformative factors. The changes may be morphological, functional or morphofunctional. Development disorders may occur as early as in the intrauterine period, thus leading to congenital deformations. They may be due to hereditary genetic factors as well as to various internal and external environmental factors. In the period when the stomatognathic system develops naturally, these developmental forces greatly facilitate orthodontic treatment. The younger the patient, the simpler and shorter the treatment required to fully correct an occlusal deformity. In dogs, the most favourable period for orthodontic treatment is approximately between the ages of 9 and 15 months old. |
