The image of Jonas Basanavičius (1851–1927), the patriarch of the Lithuanian nation, has been formed mostly by the periodical press. However, depictions of him in art, commemorative statues, symbols of statehood (on the currency, stamps, envelopes, and so on), his inclusion in school syllabuses and textbooks, street names, and the names of school and other institutions, are also quite important. Basanavičius himself was involved in the creation of his own image. The historian Algirdas Grigaravičius writes about images of Jonas Basanavičius. |
