Popis: Famous Lithuanian book smuggler Jurgis Bielinis’ son Kipras Bielinis still a student got involved into activities of various secret student clubs and became an organizer of social democratic circles and social democratic press distribution. An active participant in the revolutionary events of 1905 in Lithuania, besides organizational work and press distribution in different regions of Lithuania, Bielinis distinguished himself as a public speaker (of party “sermons”) in various places of Lithuania during Lithuanian Social Democratic Party rallies and demonstrations, and became one of the most prominent public figures of the national revolution in Lithuania of the above mentioned year. Arrested in 1907, jailed for five years and then exiled to Siberia, Bielinis escaped from there, then for about four years lived and worked in Eastern Russia under an assumed name. After the February Revolution in Russia in 1917, Bielinis returned to the European part of Russia and joined the Lithuanian Social Democratic movement, but unlike many of its members did not become a communist and in 1918, having returned to Lithuania, joined the Lithuanian Social Democratic party activities. In 1919, he became one of the party leading members who played an important role in preparation for the elections of the Constituent Assembly (Seimas).
