The article is based on the MA thesis defended at the University of Warsaw in 2019. The purpose of the thesis was to examine the language features of the older generation of the residents of Suvalkai. Two research methods were used: recordings and surveys. The first part of the article describes the extremely complicated history of the Suvalkai region and the city dividing it into three parts: until the outbreak of World War I, in the inter-war period and after World War II. The current realities of Lithuanians in Suvalkai were also presented. The second part of the article concerns linguistic issues, such as: the state of research on the dialects of Lithuanians in Poland, the sociolinguistic situation of Lithuanians in Suvalkai, description of informants, linguistic analysis of the language of the older generation of Lithuanians - residents of the city of Suvalkai, and a summary. |
