Popis: The purpose of the articleis to reveal the peculiarities of folk dances of Opolyan in the context of calendar rituals.Methodology.A comprehensive approach is applied, which combines general scientific and special scientific methods with techniques of semiotic analysis of the phenomena of traditional culture of Opilya, retrospective reconstruction; the method of historical-typological analysis when considering the features of the calendar ceremony of the polls; the method of structural analysis for the purpose of researching the genre specificity of dance rituals; a descriptive method that contributed to the systematization of local steps, movements and the identification of their structural components.Scientific novelty. For the first time in the national art history the traditional dance culture of the people of Opole was studied through the prism of calendar rituals; the structure, semantics and vocabulary of traditional round dances in Opillia in the context of spring-summer cycle holidays are considered; the main characteristic features of authentic dances of opolyanas are revealed.Conclusions. The sources of the dances of the Polyany, characteristic of the spring-summer rituals, are the deep layers of traditional culture and life of this ethnic group. Their organic combination with other elements of the folklore and ethnographic complex of the holiday (music, singing, playing, pantomime, drama, various entertainments) testifies to the original syncretic nature of the authentic dance culture of the Ukrainian people. The study found that folk dances of Opolyan are characterized by a set of specific lexical images, symbols that form a special system of codes by which the performer describes the world around, while using it in the interpretation of both external and internal world. The polycodic essence of the lexical component of Opillya’s dance culture in the context of local calendar rituals is directly related to the ethnography, culture and worldview of the ethnos. In our opinion, the local vocabulary of the folk dance of Opolyan can be considered as a unique cultural code, endowed with specific ways of coding, storing and transmitting socio-cultural values and meanings of the region. Being a bearer of a certain system of signs, Opillya folk dance becomes a mediator between man and the world around him, performing the function of selecting and structuring information.
