Introduction: suboptimal breastfeeding is a national public health problem. In fact, in France, there is a frequency of breastfeeding and a duration of execution lower than the recommendations of the World Health organization. This reality justifies the studies seeking the determinants of these breastfeeding defects. Among these determinants, the peripartum data are still not really studied despite of their importance. It seems particularly important to us to mention one in particular: the administration of oxytocin in view of the central place of oxytocin in the hormonal scheme of achieving breastfeeding. Materials and methods: we carried out a quantitative observational study exposed / unexposed retrospective unicentric. We compared the difficulties of initiating breastfeeding in a group of women not exposed to oxytocin (n = 99) and exposed to oxytocin during labor (n=95), during postpartum immediate(n=65) and during labor and postpartum immediate (n=59). Results: the difficulties of implementing breastfeeding in the population not exposed to oxytocin concerned 39% of the patients; these difficulties appear to be increased in all groups exposed to oxytocin perpartum.
