Background: Obstetrics training of the family medicine residents should consider the needs and particularities of gynecological practice in general medicine. Objectives: Assessment of the family medicine residents in Rennes concerning the pregnancy follow-up during the initial training, particularly during the obstetrics clerkship. Material and methods: A survey concerning the knowledge about the pregnancy follow-up and the terms of the obstetrics clerkship was sent under electronic form to the residents. The main fields of pregnancy follow-up were covered by 9 groups. Residents answered a first time before and a second time again after their obstetrics clerkship. The traineeship places were divided into group A for grade 3 maternity hospitals and group B for grade 1 or 2 maternity hospitals. Results: Among the 56 residents concerned by the study, 47 (84%) answered both surveys. There were no missing values for any of the closed questions. The residents had overall more than 66% good answers on pretest and posttest (939/1410 (67%) versus 985/1410 (70%); p=0,12).
