| Popis: | Geographic variation in morphology of the commercially important squid species Illex coindetii has le to speculation about possible taxonomic fidderences among populations. We compared hectocotylus morphology between western Atlantic speciemns, from the Gulf of Mexico and Craibbean, and Mediterranean specimens, from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Although a few differences were found in morphometrics and meristics, we conclude that the new two populations are consprecific. |
