Popis: The topic of this master thesis is the analysis of language aspects of the group of people involved in the sport of baton twirling. In the theoretical part, the author introduces this type of sports dance, which is not very popular in the Czech Republic and is not in the public consciousness. The attention is paid mainly to the sociolects to which slangs are traditionally assigned. The material basis for this thesis is a partial corpus of slangisms, which was compiled on the basis of the author's own experience, observations and interviews with professional and amateur athletes and coaches (sports journalists and fans are out of focus). The excerpted material is subjected to a thorough analysis, both in terms of semantics, as well as word formation and etymology. The thesis also includes a dictionary of twirling slangisms, an excerpt from the competition rules and scoresheets of teachers. The aim of this thesis is to capture and describe the current state of twirling slang and thus contribute to the study of non standard Czech language.
