Master thesis "Spiritual accompaniment in the service of a hospital chaplain" describes and evaluates uniqueness, meaning and demands of service of the spiritual accompaniment of a hospital chaplain. What its limits are and how it is different from the traditional understanding of spiritual accompaniment in the catholic community. Firstly hence is explained the term of spiritual accompaniment, ties with the psychotherapy are outlined and its value for patients. Then the work of a hospital chaplain is described, its mission and competence in the framework of the holistic approach towards hospitalized patients. Biblical and theological starting points that deal with patients in postmodern society are processed. Thesis clarifies specifics of work of a hospital chaplain, what demands are expected from hospital chaplains (from the patients, family, personnel, management of hospital and the church). Current chaplaincy practice in the hospitals is indicated in two case studies in the accompaniment of people who profess to religion other than Christianity.
