Popis: | This bachelor's thesis uses the example of four Swedish cameramen to examine the role and image of light in Scandinavian film. It is based on the fact that a cameraman is the creator of the film image and the co-author of the film and that light is one of his creative tools. It assumes that the Nordic light is unique and, as such, it affects the appearance of the Scandinavian landscape, the nature of the local people as well as their approach to the light which is also a part of their close relationship to the nature. It explores how this relationship is shown in the Scandinavian, specifically the Swedish and Danish cinematography. It analyzes the narrative function of light, its importance in creating the atmosphere and its effect on the overall formal and substantive nature of the work. The analysis includes works from the era of Swedish silent film addressing, among other aspects, the nature and use of light in black and white films as well as the color films dating to the period from the 50's to the 90's. The thesis analyzes the appearance of natural and artificial light both in interiors and exteriors and its effect on the color concept of the works. In this context it also mentiones the importance of light in Scandinavian culture and art, specifically in painting. |
