This thesis describes the life and work of prominent Japanese writer and politician, Ishihara Shintaro, who helped to form the views of Japanese youth after World War II. The thesis also tries to summarize Ishihara's work as the governor of Tokyo and his controversial statements influenced by his nationalistic ideology, especially those concerning foreign relations. In the last chapter, this thesis hopes to find the reasons for Ishihara's popularity among the electorate, in connection with growing nationalistic movement in Japan. |
