Popis: Until his emigration from Czechoslovakia in 1939, the journalist and editor-in-chief of the daily Prager Presse, Arne Laurin (1889-1945), devoted almost his entire life to book collecting. He is most famous for his collection of journalistic literature which, after the vicissitudes of war and Laurin's death, became part of the library of the present-day Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University. In its time, the journalistic library earned great renown, among other things, thanks to the seven printed catalogues that Laurin published in 1931-1937 as bibliophile prints. In addition to Bohemian books, the library as a whole, and especially its historical collection of prints up to 1860, contains mostly foreign literature of German, French, English, Swedish, Dutch, Swiss, Polish, Hungarian and other print provenience. The thesis focuses on the historical items in which it traces provenience characteristics from the period of Laurin's ownership as well as earlier ones. It also discusses major library issues such as acquisitions, cataloguing, library creation and library accessibility, and last but not least, it traces the fate of the collection after Laurin's emigration up to the present day. In terms of book collecting, it places Laurin's personality in a broader context.
