This bachelor thesis focuses on the relationship between the use of Instagram and the physical self-concept of adolescent girls. The theoretical part consists of three chapters. In the first chapter adolescence and its developmental aspects are briefly summarized, the second chapter deals with self-concept and its development in adolescence, followed by a subchapter concerning physical self-concept. At the end of the theoretical work, social networks, Instagram and their influence on physical self-concept are introduced. In the practical part, the bachelor's thesis aims to find the relationship between the use of Instagram and the physical self-concept of adolescent girls. The research group consists of 252 respondents aged 15-20 years who own an Instagram account. The sample was collected via social networks using the improbable selection method. The relationship of the respondents to their own body was measured using the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire, which measures attitudes towards their own body, and the Basic Olomouc Body Rating, which measures satisfaction with their own appearance using a pictorial scale of characters. The level of use of Instagram was detected using a questionnaire created for the purposes of the bachelor's thesis. A statistically significant difference was demonstrated in the hypothesis concerning girls who follow fitness accounts and girls who do not follow them. Girls who do not follow fitness accounts showed higher dissatisfaction with their body, which was measured by the BOBR questionnaire, than girls who do follow these accounts. |
