The paper is concerned with the architectural and restoration problems of a previously undocumented 19th century church in the Antique town of Kelenderis. The region, as in many parts of the Anatolian peninsula bears the remains of cultural relicts of different cultures. Likewise, the district of Aydincik, located in the city of Mersin in the area of Cilicia, has been the scene of settlements from the prehistoric periods up to the Byzantine and the Ottoman periods. Due to the presence of rich and varied cultural remains, the region has been the scene of extensive research. However, the building concerned with this paper has not been studied previously. The present study covers the documentation of the building remains and the analysis of the state of its preservation. The main purpose of the paper is to highlight the problems related to the preservation and to the restoration of this building so as to provide a basis for its management. |
