Flow is a state of harmonious experience where mind and body are working together as one. It is a positive state of consciousness, in which a person becomes completely absorbed in what he or she is doing. The main goal of the dissertation was to take a closer look at the concept of flow in Slovenian athletes, where we especially wanted to determine the impact of demographical and situational variables as well as the levels of life satisfaction on the experience of flow. In the study, we also analyzed the validity and reliability of the Slovenian version of the Dispositional Flow Scale-2 (DFS-2). Of the 338 athletes that participated in the study, there were 177 males and 161 females aged 14 to 58 years. The research results have shown that Slovenian translation of the DFS-2 scale is adequate. The internal consistency estimates were satisfactory for all flow factors (from .70 to .88) and the correlations between individual dimensions of flow were positive and statistically significant. In analyzing the relationship between flow and demographic and situational variables, we discovered that males as well as team sport athletes were shown to have higher scores on almost all dimensions of flow than females and individual sport athletes on the other hand, professional and recreational athletes mostly did not differ in the dimensions of flow. The results also revealed a significant correlation between life satisfaction and all dimensions of flow, and an important relationship between age and global flow factor. Discoveries also provide support for clear goals and autotelic experience to be the most frequent dimensions of flow, while time transformation and loss of self-consciousness are the most infrequent.
