Smoking is the most common addiction in today's world. People are not aware any more how important and irreplaceable our health is. It is too little spoken and warned about great consequences of smoking on the smoker and people around the smoker. The main purpose of this diploma paper was to explore whether the students of Secondary nursing school are enough conscious about smoking consequences. Research methodology. The research was based on the quantitative methodology. We used questionnaire for gathering informations, which was composed of 14 close ended and open ended questions. Research model included students from 1st to 4th class. Research results. The research showed that students are mostly aware of the smoking consequences, but despite that they still reach out for the cigarettes. Curiosity and coincidence were the most commonly stated reasons to start smoking. Students are aware of the following most frequent consequences of smoking: lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). They gained the most of the information about dangers of smoking from the teachers of certain subjects. Conclusion. The research revealed that student smoke despite knowing the consequences. Considering that research model has been formed of students from high school, which educates healthcare professionals, the results about awareness of dangers of smoking were to be expected, since the most information that students gained were from their teachers who were also healthcare professionals. |
