Purpose: Patient safety during general anaesthesia requires monitoring of anesthetic work station, as well as constant monitoring and sustaining patient respiratory and circulatory system. The purpose of master’s thesis was to show all possibilities, how negative pressure on an anesthetic work station can occur and what could be consequences, if negative pressure alarm is ignored. Methodology: Research master’s thesis consist of two parts. First is theoretical part in which we use descriptive research method and second empirical part, where experimental research method was used. The last part was carried out in clinical working environment in one of the Slovenian hospitals. Results: We discovered three examples of negative pressure on anesthetic work station, but we demonstrated only two of them. The third one is only described. Afterwards we compared alarms of two different anesthetic work stations Leon and Primus. Discussion and conclusions: If any of alarms like negative pressure or frashgas shortage or fresh gas low are triggered and if reservoir bag of anesthetic work station is empty, a healthcare professional must immediately act and switch off active scavenging system or disconnect the patient from work station and use backup bag valve mask (AMBU) until problem is resolved. |
