The goal of the experiment, conducted in the trial orchard near Ivanjkovci between 2016 and 2017, was to research the effects of crop load (number of fruits per cm2 TCSA) and foliar application of calcium and nitrogen fertilisers on vegetative and generative parameters (yield per tree, number of fruits, average fruit weight), the quality of fruits at harvest (Streif maturity index, dry matter, fruit rigidity), the mineral content of fruits (Mg, Ca and K concentration), the spread of bitter pit as well as the effects on return bloom of Golden Delicious apple trees. The experiment consisted of 7 different treatments with four repetitions. These treatments included low, medium and high crop load involving the foliar application of calcium and nitrogen fertilisers, high, as well as medium and low crop load without the use of fertilisers and a control group of trees. The main findings were that the higher crop load leads to a bigger yield while the average fruit weight decreases. However, in the case of high crop load, the quality of the fruits still meets the standards while the return bloom is decreased. We are able to conclude that the foliar application of calcium and nitrogen fertiliser has no statistically relevant effects on the researched parameters, namely the vegetative growth, generative development and on the quality of the fruit. |
