Z napredovanjem bolezni so izražene spremembe samopodobe, ker z omejevanjem gibljivosti in nesposobnostjo telesnih naporov, niso več zmožni samostojnega življenja. V študiji primera smo uporabili opisno metodo dela s pomočjo vprašalnika in intervjuja starostnika z napredovalo Parkinsonovo boleznijo. Bolnik in ostali člani družine zelo dobro poznajo bolezen in napredovanje bolezni. Bolniku nudijo oporo in pomoč. Parkinson disease affects the elderly, where the problems are linked to the changes in their physical, psychological and social areas. As the sickness progresses the self-image changes, due to limited movement and physical incapabilities, which render the patient useless in everyday activities. In the case study we used a descriptive method with the help of a questionaire and an interview of the patient with severe Parkinson disease. We also gained some information with observing and evaluating the patients health and emotional state, as well as their environement. Parkinson disease patient is highly dependent on the help of others. The self care level is very low, but it changes with the current state the patient is in. The patients and their families are well informed about the disease and its progression. The patient is constantly incouraged and supported by their family, but we noticed that the biggest amount of time dealing with and caring for the patient falls onto his wife, who is noticebly tired and exhausted. The family of the patient is clearly in need of assistance from a medical nurse, who would help, advise and teach them about the progression of the disease and the adapted care following the diseases progression. It is established that the familys role with the patient is linked to physical care, health status, protection, constant escort, encouragement in the patients activities and last but not least companionship.
