Njegova dela so pustila pečat v številnih cerkvah Posavinja, Šaleške doline in širše. Zanje so značilna manieristična telesa s sorazmerno majhnimi, lutkasto izoblikovanimi glavami, razgibanim kontrapostom in živahno gestikulacijo. The Master's thesis considers the oeuvre of the Late Baroque sculptor Ferdinand Gallo (ca. 1709–1788), who spent much of his life in Celje. His works had made an impact on numerous churches in the Posavinje region, the Šaleška valley and elsewhere. As many other important sculptors of that time, he did not work alone but was the head of a workshop, with which he collaborated with other artists and artisans in the making of sacred furnishings. The thesis is in its core an overview, a result of field work supported by known archival sources and key literature. It discusses systematic overviews of research in Art History and of the sculptor's life between 1744 and 1788 with a special emphasis on researching his works– altars, altar and organ ornamentation, sacred sculptures, bozzetti and pulpits. As these had not been fully researched before, the main goal of the thesis was to form a catalogue of the sculptor's known works with art-historical descriptions accompanied by current photographic materials. It was concluded that Ferdinand Gallo was a typical medium quality style Late Baroque sculptor of sacred art in Slovene Styria as his works merge the influences of representative sculpture with sentimental folk carvings. The transition between Late Baroque tectonic forms and more picturesque Rococo-inspired altar architecture accompanied by rich ornamentation and sculptures of saints is typical of his altars. The sculptures of saints are characterized by Mannerist lean bodies with disproportionally small doll-like heads, engaging contrapposto and lively gesticulation. In altar compositions, the sculptor often positioned them in a scene-like fashion and to elicit a heightened effect often used a lively Rococo ornamentation. The variety and originality of Ferdinand Gallo's artistic production distinguish his four-decade long legacy in Slovene Styria.
