The media in the countries of post-socialist systems, had to cope with various challenges in the transition and establishment of a democratic media system. The big challenge in this transition was the establishment of public and televison stations, which would be free of any political influence. General process of democratization in BiH has been difficult because of war, that took place in the beginning of 1990s. War resulted in as deep ethnic separation of population, as well as teritorial, after which country split into separate entities. On the basis of ethnicity, the media system was created. Today in BiH, there are three public service broadcasters, which serves the promotion of national interests of individual ethnic groups. Due to presence of a politicized society and political views that promotes speech of hate and nationalism, public service broadcasters are highly susceptible to political influence, which largly contribute to the increased development of intolerance and lack of understanding between different ethnic groups in BiH.
