Within the framework of my master's thesis, I have developed a system for controlling the insertion of ceramic filters in foundry tools. I have become acquainted with this project in the company Talum. While casting pump cases using the method of tilted gravity casting, the company found that an error occurs during the process. Prior to casting, a casting filter has to be inserted into the tool. This ensures better properties of the final cast. Until now, the process of insertion was dependent only on human control, therefore errors, which are the result of the human factor, were still present. The buyer requested that automated 100 % control be established for the mentioned process. After examining the work environment and analysing various solutions, we decided to establish control with optic sensors. These sensors determine based on distance, whether a filter is present in the tool. Installation and appropriate analysis were followed by the software integration of the sensor. The system has proved effective in the company. The company informed me, that the system is working flawlessly, so the presence of the filter is successfully checked prior to each casting cycle. Automated 100 % control is therefore established.
