Popis: INTRODUCTION: Participation in group fitness classes is a method by which individuals may engage in regular physical activity. The popularly of group fitness classes has been demonstrated for more than three decades. However, despite the high participation rates of group fitness classes, the limited available evidence that describes and/or compares the cardiovascular responses and/or metabolic costs of different group fitness classes, and the extent to which participation in such classes contributes to achieving the physical activity recommendations, is not derived from reference evaluation methods, nor does it compare the effects among different age groups or sexes. METHODS: Twelve apparently healthy young adults aged 21-34 years (females=5) and twelve apparently healthy older adults aged 48-71 years (females=5) were included in this study. They carried out three different group classes separately (BIKE, Pump Power (PP), and Global Training (GT)) in which they used a gas meter (K5, Cosmed) to collect energy expenditure in the session and a heart rate monitor was used for the heart rate response. RESULTS: The highest Active Energy Expenditure (AEE) was obtained during the BIKE session both in young people (d=123.38 to 144.39, p
