Be it resolved: Recording live lectures is a post-pandemic practice that must be considered. During the pandemic, many students became accustomed to having materials - in recorded format - posted on their learning management systems (LMS). Such recordings were either created in advance or during live lectures. But we must ask ourselves how these practices have influenced students' learning and expectations since moving back into the classroom. Here we will debate the pros and cons of continuing this practice while teaching in-person, along with the requirements of an instructor's time and technical capabilities. Our debate will ask the following questions: 1. Does anyone have previous experience with recording live lectures? If so, how did it go? 2. Are you for or against this practice? Why? 3. Do you believe that student's expect recordings of live lectures? Has this expectation changed since returning back to in-person classes? 4. What support(s) would you need (e.g., technology) to implement such a practice? |
