António Alberto Falcão de Freitas (1933-2004), nasceu em Oliveira de Azeméis, distrito de Aveiro. Foi Professor Catedrático da Faculdade de Medicina do Porto, Médico e Investigador. Licenciou-se em Medicina na Faculdade Medicina da Universidade do Porto, em 1958, e doutorou-se em 1968. A Guerra Colonial levou-o até Luanda, entre 1969 e 1971, onde desenvolveu o ensino médico, associado à Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Luanda. Em Portugal foi um prestigiado Professor da FMUP, regente da cadeira de Prática Clínica do 6ºano, entre 1980 e 2002, e um excelente cardiologista e internista do Hospital de São João, tendo sido Diretor de Serviço, entre 1974 e 2002. Durante o seu percurso fundou a Associação Portuguesa de Paramiloidose (1979), foi membro do Conselho Nacional de Ética para as Ciências da Vida (1991-2003) e presidente da Sociedade Portuguesa de Cardiologia (1989-1991). Professor Falcão de Freitas foi um exemplo do elevado profissionalismo e dedicação à Medicina. Permanecerá vivo na memória dos que com ele privaram.A sua morte foi uma grande perda para a comunidade médica e académica. António Alberto Falcão de Freitas (1933-2004), MD, PhD, was born in Oliveira de Azeméis, district of Aveiro. He was Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, Physician and Researcher. He graduated in Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, in 1958, and received his doctorate in 1968. The Colonial War took him to Luanda, between 1969 and 1971, where he developed medical education, associated with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Luanda. In Portugal, he was a prestigious Professor at the FMUP, chair of the 6th year Clinical Practice chair, between 1980 and 2002, and an excellent cardiologist and internist at the Hospital de São João, having been Service Director, between 1974 and 2002. During his career, he founded the Portuguese Association of Paramyloidosis (1979), was a member of the National Council of Ethics for Life Sciences (1991-2003) and president of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology (1989-1991). Professor Falcão de Freitas was an example of high professionalism and dedication to medicine. He will remain alive in the memory of those who were deprived of him. His death was a great loss for the medical and academic community. |
