Popis: The use of the arts in therapy and rehabilitation is well established, but combining arts and robot-assisted therapy remains a relatively under-explored research area. Art therapy has shown to positively impact both physical and mental health. Because drawing is both a physical and a creative activity, it has the potential to support both functional and psychosocial rehabilitation in an engaging and meaningful way. This paper scopes the possibility of combining art therapy with robot-assisted therapy for rehabilitation. We briefly summarise the history of drawing machines and survey recent developments in robot drawing tools. We then summarise three cases studies that combine robots and art to support rehabilitation. Based on these studies, we identify some methodological challenges and outline suggestions for incorporating ergonomic considerations to better support an individual's needs and facilitate creative expression.
