Popis: The current within-participants experiment examined for the first time how a cooperative (vs. a non-cooperative solitary) mobile game influences social behaviors and positive affect during gameplay in children. Our findings showed that fifth graders who played a cooperative (vs. solitary) mobile game in groups engaged in more social interactions. Specifically, children engaged in more positive and neutral conversations, negotiation, and leadership as well as seeking more help from and spontaneously providing greater help to peers during cooperative (vs. solitary) gaming. We also showed that children displayed greater positive affect during cooperative (vs. solitary) gaming. Finally, children preferred the cooperative mobile game to an otherwise identical solitary game after playing both games. Our findings suggest that playing cooperative mobile games positively contribute to children’s social and personal well-being.
