Popis: The objective of this study is to develop an in situ method for observing pearl chain formations of dielectric particles under an electric field by using a microscope technique. The intended experiments by digital microscopy in this study focused on the behaviour of particles under the electric field created between two electrodes with a narrow gap, which results from the use of different dielectric particles (alumina, silica and titanium dioxide) and solid concentrations. A sample cell was first developed for observation. Then, experimental conditions (electric field strength and solid concentrations) were determined by calculation of dielectric polarization force and gravitational force. Finally, pearl chain formations of dielectric alumina particles under an electric field were successfully observed at 0.1 vol% solid. Refereed/Peer-reviewed
