Thesis (Masters by research(Finance and related studies))--University of South Australia, 2018. Includes bibliographical references (pages 105-115) Cancer is a prevalent and devastating disease that impacts individuals worldwide. While trends indicate rising rates of diagnoses for most types of cancer, mortality rates are declining. This decline can be largely attributed to medical advances associated with cancer treatment. The combination of these two trends has led to a growing number of cancer survivors and triggered increased focus on research of the Quality of Life (QoL) of those who have suffered a cancer diagnosis. This study investigates the QoL of Australian cancer survivors with respect to whether they owned Trauma insurance or not. Our findings show a general decrease of QoL of cancer survivors with no Trauma insurance. We attribute this difference to the addition of benefits survivors buy with insurance proceeds. Trauma insurance and other financial mechanisms are found to help mitigate financial stress. |
