Phase modulation is very important form of angle modulation. It is the modulation choice for satellite and deep space missions, like frequency modulation (FM), its noise properties are superior to amplitude modulation (AM) but unlike FM, it can be produced in a simple circuit driven from frequency stable, crystal controlled oscillator. A novel way of designing a low cost phase modulator and demodulator has been presented for the S-Band telemetry, tracking and command (TT&C) Transponder. Mathematical analysis for designing tunable inductor, capacitance of varactor diode and the integrator is provided. The results show good performance of phase modem with less computational complexity and low cost components. |
