Popis: Previous studies showed that the flotation of sulfide minerals is affected by the presence of ionic species in the water (Sinche, Fornasiero & Zanin, 2011). These positively and negatively charged species adsorb mostly by electrostatic interaction on mineral surfaces of opposite charge. These ionic species are hydrophilic and may also prevent collector adsorption, which both reduce the hydrophobicity of the mineral surface. These ionic species are present in different concentrations in the process water used at mineral processing plants, affecting the flotation of copper and molybdenum, particularly when the water is recycled. The concentration of ions can build up to high levels, with an important bearing on the selectivity and recovery of sulfide minerals. The aim of this study is to investigate at a mine site the effects of process and recycled water composition on the flotation of a copper ore containing chalcopyrite and molybdenite.
