Arno Tuurna (1894–1976, until 1935 Arno Thuneberg) was a key influencer of Karelian political and cultural life from the 1930s until the 1970s. The text focuses on Tuurna’s activities after the Second World War, when he was involved in key positions in Parliament, the Helsinki municipal administration and numerous organisations to do with ceded Karelia. From these positions he tirelessly emphasised the importance of working for the cause of Kareliness in general, and the importance of cherishing the memory of Vyborg in particular. peerReviewed |
