Popis: The composition "Te Deum sollenne" of the bandmaster from Split, Benedetto Pellizzari, represents a work of unique content. In this composition the author has brought together different techniques and forms. By style, the composition breathes with the baroque monumentality and sound, but with the occasional appearance of elements of a new, "galant" style. In distinction from his previous works in which Pellizzari firmly fixed the boundaries of solistical and choir sections, in this composition he sets individuals in a direct dialogue with the choir, realizing the dynamic effect of the piano (individual) - forte (choir) contrast. By the measure of its deepness and strength, Te Deum acts like cantata, even though the composer didn't imagine it like that, Pellizzari' s Te Deum is extremely interesting by its historical position - magnificent celebration of St. Du jam's Day in 1770. He reveals only a section of the rich Croatian musical history. In it we see a very high interpreting level of music-making in our Cathedral. Considering today's demands and modalities of church music, the composition Te Deum is not suitable for performing during the mass. It belongs to a so-called spiritual music, "musical heritage of an overall church", "treasure of the priceless value" (SC 112) that should be performed, preserved and studied.
