The first gas pipelines for the transmission of natural gas in Croatia were built more than fifty years ago. The development of the gas transmission system began in 1954 when INA-Naftaplin started the construction of the first Ivanić Grad-Zagreb gas pipeline, which was completed in 1959. Moreover, the construction of the Rogatec-Zabok gas pipeline and its connecting to the transmission system of Slovenia provided preconditions for the import of gas from Russia, which started in 1978. In this period, the gas transmission system of the Republic of Croatia underwent numerous changes, upgrades, and modernizations. New gas pipelines, measuring-reduction stations, gas nodes and a compressor station were constructed. Numerous equipment has been installed and it has undergone the largest transformation in the last twenty years, in terms of the materials from which gas pipelines are made today, the methods by which they are tested and the sophisticated software that monitors the parameters of the gas pipeline walls condition. With the advancement of technology, the methods of maintenance of gas pipelines and associated equipment are inevitably changing. Today Plinacro conducts in-line inspections of gas pipelines very precisely, it calculates the growth of corrosion and the service life of damaged pipes with considerable accuracy. Plinacro uses the state-of-the-art in-line inspection tools, provides cathodic protection on almost all gas pipelines, and checks gas pipelines for leaks by drones on inaccessible parts of routes. With its continuous monitoring, management and maintenance of the transmission system and technological facilities, adequate preparation of the system for the necessary operating conditions, analysing the conditions in the system and forecasting its behaviour, Plinacro ensures safe and secure gas delivery and it is undoubtedly ready for new challenges in the coming years.
