This thesis was written from 2006 to 2009 at Robert Bosch GmbH, business unit Diesel Systems, in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. Over the last years new communication media such as wikis, blogs or social networking services have become more popular in the public of the World Wide Web. The single user is no longer a passive consumer but even as IT non-professional is now able to act globally. At the same time enterprises face the challenge to survive in a competition that is getting more and more dynamic and knowledge-intensive than ever. In many enterprises there are and have been considerations to introduce internally new dynamic communication media that are known to the employees from their private lives. However, adopting e.g. wikis in enterprises successfully is a complex and long-lasting process. The thesis primarily deals with the question how the success or failing can be measured when using wikis in an enterprise. The theoretical part about knowledge management, the so-called Social Web and different research perspectives on wikis, is followed by an explorative pilot study to expectations on a wiki in an automotive company. Focus of the thesis is a study with a qualitative and a quantitative part that is based on the DeLone and McLean Model of Information Systems Success. In the qualitative part twelve semi-structured interviews were conducted with 28 participants from ten enterprises of different sizes and various branches across Germany. The intention was to identify successful and not yet successful adopted wikis. Subsequently, in the quantitative part, the wikis of both groups were compared by means of 74 indicators regarding growth, structuring, quality, age, activity, timeliness, collaboration, differentiation, integration, awareness, and transparency. Finally significance tests provided a basis for the identification of the indicators which are suitable for the determination of successfully and not yet successfully established wikis. |
