Every comic creates atmosphere in the placement of pictorial elements and texts in each image, on each page, in the larger narrative. Form and content influence each other: most notably in the styling of elements and in the placement of images within sequences: drawing style, drawing & writing tools, colours, choice of fonts, …Narrative development happens within the visualised story. Students’ comics productions do experiment on diverse issues in comics storytelling: they test narrative options in comics and develop their artistic voice, we as teachers/researchers get to see, what we managed to communicate and what issues are considered most interesting by individual students, (results of teaching).We are provided with more material than we could produce ourselves to test ideas on comics-formats and storytelling (research material). |
