This paper studies the agricultural sector’s contribution to the creation of employment. In the first part, we explain the scope of the research: the rural environment and its evolution, which depends largely on achieving the right balance between the different European Union policies. In the second part, we assess how agricultural activity, strictly speaking, contributes to employment and we study its development in recent years. We consider the creation of employment and the ways in which agriculture contributes to this: through farmers as independent businesspeople or through participative organizations. Lastly, the conclusions contrast the evolution of the rural environment in recent years as a result of structural policies that guarantee stability in agriculture and ensure that a balance is achieved and socio-economic inequalities between different regions are eradicated through territorial development and improvements to the quality of life of those concerned. |
