Although many times the new values of rural category has been emphasized in the literature, rural areas show significant disadvantages in general. As a main reason, in Hungary - partly due to the political and economical transition - the role of agriculture in employment has been notably decreased. In Hungary the changing role of agriculture, the rural unemployment and the territorial distribution of unemployment were analyzed numbers of times in the last decades, while there were no researches in agricultural unemployment and it’s territorial characteristics. First goal of the paper is the determination of rural micro-regions that show significant and permanent agricultural job-loss and agricultural unemployment during the period 1990-2003. Comparison these areas with territorial (national, micro-regional) characteristics is the second goal. The analysis is based on two hypothesis: 1) The continuous, permanent agricultural unemployment is territorially concentrated in Hungary 2) This problem heavily correlates with territorial inequalities and disadvantages. |
